Agonistes English Toy Spaniels

In pursuit of a house dog I ran across a picture of an English Toy Spaniel and decided that I had to have one. Let it be known that this breed is not so readily available in the U.S. Family, Ken, and friends all thought that this was a good thing, since my history in dogs had primarily been with giant breeds and the Terriers, they felt a Toy breed would not be for me. The rest is history. In hot pursuit I sought high and low for an English Toy, with none to be found. Finally I did run across a women in Oregon with a Tri coloured male, pet puppy for sale. He had an injured eye but that made no difference to me. Thompson arrived and once I saw that soft melting expression and his mushy face so characteristic of "Charlies" I was hooked.

While on a judging assignment in South Wales I ran upon the Charlie ring. Ken was with me and knowing no strangers he began talking with Mrs. Fry and Tracy Jackson of the world famous Amantra Kennels in England.

Months following that trip Winston (Amantra Secret Dream) arrived in the U.S. Nervous and shaken after the long flight Winston soon settled in. Purchased for showing Winston soon proved his worth. Unusual for the breed he matured quickly and finished his Championship quite early. The decision to pull him from the ring and to let him fully mature was put aside. Shown limitedly as a Special, Winton proved to be a contender in the Group ring in heavy West Coast competition. He held his own and often found himself in the placements or pulled for consideration.  Now retired from the ring he happily roams the house and yard.
